THIS IS A COMPASSION BLOG HOP
A STORY ABOUT A COMPASSION MOM – YOU GET TO CHOOSE THE ENDING
Vilmae paused and sat back on her haunches. It was so hot and steamy. There was not even a breeze. She wiped the sweat off her brow and looked behind her. The floor definitely looked better where she had scrubbed it.
Although it was hot and grimy work, she knew that she was one of the more fortunate ones. Many of the other moms in her village only had dirt floors. At least she had something to scrub! She sighed again. They all needed a miracle. The whole village. She cared, but what could she possibly do to help? She had enough worries of her own.
Like Estefany for instance. What kind of future could she give her beloved child? Would Estefany be reduced to this sort of life, too? It was hard enough for Luis just to find enough food for them all to eat. And now that the old horse had died, it would just get harder and harder. He had nothing now to help him plough.
‘Education?’ she muttered. ‘Impossible!’ She sighed again. It all seemed so hopeless. She had so many dreams for her child. She just didn’t know how to make them happen. ‘Please Lord,’ she whispered, ‘I give it all to You. You know my heart. But yet, not my will, but Yours be done…”
She was interrupted.
Estefany bounced in the open doorway. Her sweet face shone with excitement. “Hey Mom! Guess what? I’ve been accepted for the Compassion program! The teacher stopped me today and told me! I don’t know how, but they already have sponsors for us! See, here is my first letter. And there is something in here for you too. Look! See that tag? It says, ‘Please give this to your mother with our love’. I know. My teacher told me.” she added triumphantly.
For the first time in a long while, Vilmae felt a strange emotion. At first she didn’t realise what it was.
That’s what she felt.
‘Thank you, Lord’ she smiled softly as she wiped a tear away. Of the two of them, only she realised the full significance of what had just happened. She was sure her shoulders felt a ton lighter, as she got up from her knees and hugged Estefany.
“Really?” she said. “How wonderful! Let me see it!”

A heart-warming short video about ‘Peeps’, a baby hummingbird who fell out of his nest and was then released back into the wild, after being lovingly nursed back to health by humans. While he was in ‘hospital’ Peeps was taken outside each day to get nectar from flowers. As Peeps sits cupped in human hands, Mrs Hummingbird hovers anxiously nearby. The baby calls out to mama; the mother comes closer, and then… you won’t believe what happens next! No mother can resist the call of her child, no matter what the danger.
And when you write to your sponsored child, don’t forget…
Did you know: You can also support mothers who are living in poverty, through ongoing support of a Child Survival Program or by making a one time donation. The Child Survival Program helps save the lives of babies and mothers in poverty by utilizing local churches to assist mothers of at-risk infants and toddlers. Mothers can give their children a fighting chance for healthy development with the supplies and training provided by the donations to this program.
