BIBLE VERSES

Matthew 6:26  Behold the birds of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?

Job 12:7  But ask now the beasts and they shall teach you; and the birds of the air and they shall tell you. Or speak to the earth and it shall teach you; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto you. Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

Job 35:11  Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of heaven?

Hummingbirds, God’s Amazing Superhero  (creation.com) In a ‘glad you asked’ tone, I told my friends about God’s amazing design of the hummingbird… and check out that cool tongue design; information from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

Hummingbirds  (answersingenesis) How would you react if a friend gave you a birthday present that weighed no more than a dime and was smaller than your finger?… Consider the hummingbird. You may have seen them zipping around your flower garden or perhaps even hovering near a bird feeder or window. Perhaps you’ve even drawn a picture of one because of its pretty colors. They’re packed with huge designs in a tiny package.

Hummingbirds  (answersingenesis) Fantastic from head to tail! Did you know our planet is filled with at least 338 species of hummingbirds? These tiny acrobats wear a fantastic array of colorful costumes!

Hummingbird – Avian Acrobats  (answersingenesis) Picture yourself relaxing in the floral bouquet of a butterfly garden when suddenly the buzz of a gigantic bee tingles your ears, followed by an explosion of brilliant colour. Then, as quickly as it disrupts your peaceful world, it vanishes without a trace. After the shock passes, it dawns on you. You’ve just witnessed one of the greatest shows on earth. We marvel at birds in flight. But the hummingbird stands apart in its acrobatic talents, with a complex flight system unlike any other; information from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

The Hummingbird – God’s Tiny Miracle  (answersingenesis) Did you know that these adorable birds eat the human equivalent of 1300 hamburgers a day?! Known for their “extremely rapid wing-beat (50-80 beats per second) and its amazing ability to manoeuvre, the hummingbird can hover, it can fly backwards and sideways, and it can fly at speeds of more than 90 kilometres an hour (55 miles per hour).” If you operated at this bird’s energy level, you would burst into flames! Share this tiny miracle with your child; from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

Ruby Throated Hummingbird – fun facts for kids  (answersingenesis) In the sun, the feathers of the hummingbird flash a metallic green and the throat of the male sparkles a fiery red colour. The wings beat so rapidly that they appear as a blur creating that humming sound. High speed photos revealed that the hummingbird beats its wings 55 times per second when hovering, 61 per second when backing up, 75 per second when flying straightway, and 200 per second during courtship; from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

Hummingbirds – fun facts for kids  (answersingenesis) Hummingbirds are are the smallest birds in the world and are known for their long bills, dazzling colours and speedy wings. Hummingbirds are like helicopters; they can go up, down, forward, backward, and side to side with great precision; from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

Hummingbirds – designed to catch bugs  (answersingenesis) The hummingbird has a long slender beak, perfectly designed to sip nectar. So how do hummingbirds catch all those bugs? God designed the hummingbird’s beak with wonderful features; fun facts for kids from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

A humdinger of a challenge  (answersingenesis) Read about the fabulous “snap-buckling” design of hummingbirds, made famous by Venus flytraps; from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

Hummingbird, creation by design  (icr.org) This tiny bird’s wings beat from 50 to 80 times per second—a testimony to God’s incredible design, caught in a split-second of time. In real time, we only see a blur as this remarkable creature darts about too fast for us to fully catch its exquisitely engineered performance.

Hummingbird – family devotional  (answersingenesis) Tiny hummingbirds have some big features. What can they teach us about the big impact of “small things”? We may think our prayers and acts of love are small, but God can take small things and do more than we can even imagine.

When Peeps was still in ‘hospital’, he was taken outside to get nectar from flowers. As Peter sits with Peeps cupped in his hands, Mrs Hummingbird hovers nearby. The baby calls out to mama. ARTICLE TEXT

HUMMINGBIRD—BY SPECIAL DESIGN

God’s Tiny Ballerinas / God’s Tiny Helicopters

DID YOU KNOW: If humans moved as fast as this tiny bird does, they would burst into flames! Stand up tall and lift your hands high in the air. Now, make a graceful ‘figure 8’ with your arms moving up and down, as if you were flying. Could you do that 50-80 times a second? This tiny superhero can. Their powerful muscles twist and beat their little wings in a ‘figure 8’ so fast that they make a buzzing or humming sound. They can hover, take off vertically, fly backwards, sideways and even UPSIDE DOWN for short distances, because their wings can swivel in any direction. These astonishing little acrobats have stunning colours and an amazing ability to manoeuvre. They can fly at speeds of more than 90kmph (55mph) with awe-inspiring precision and beauty—God’s tiny (and clever) ballerinas / God’s tiny (and clever) helicopters. During courtship displays they can go even faster, twisting and beating their iridescent little wings up to 200 times a second! Wow! To get all the energy they need to do this, they drink nectar constantly, zipping from flower to flower like a tiny streak of lightning. When they find a flower they like, they stop abruptly in mid air, tilt their body about 45 degrees and hover over the flower. Their long tongue is a tiny micro-pump that unzips itself, curls around the nectar, traps it, then zips back up again really fast. These busy little birds pump nectar from flowers in less than 1/20th of a second; and they do it thousands of times every day. Everything—bones, muscles, tendons, brain and nervous system—all works together in fantastic synchronisation. If they were human, they would move so fast, create so much heat, and would use up so much energy that their hearts would beat 1260 times a minute; they would need to eat 1300 hamburgers a day; and their body temperature would get so hot (385°C / 725°F) that they would burst into flames!

Many people have been persuaded to think this incredible design took millions of years and happened all by itself. But the fossil record shows that birds appeared suddenly and have always been birds. And scientists have spent millions of dollars trying to copy the hummingbird’s brilliant engineering designs—without success. That’s because these exquisite creatures were designed by the Master Designer, who knew exactly what He was doing. You can read all about it in your Bible in Genesis 1. Like everything that God mad in the very first week of history, they are tiny masterpieces of God’s living art gallery that we see all around us. See if you can work out what day God made hummingbirds*. Isn’t God clever to think up so many astonishing and fabulous designs? God also created every kind of creature to reproduce after its own KIND. That means if we peek into a hummingbird nest, it will not be a baby tiger or a baby eagle. It will be a baby hummingbird. God created so many wonderful things for us to care for and enjoy. Things that are beautiful…. intricate… mysterious… perfect. To teach us about Him. To show us how wonderful, magnificent, wise and powerful He is. So that we will worship Him. Jesus! God the Creator!

INFORMATION

Information from creation.com ~ a fabulous site with lots of scientific information from a Biblical perspective. Written by Ph.D. scientists (previously evolutionists who were indoctrinated by atheist universities) who have come to believe that God says what He means and means what He says. Got questions about God? This is where you will find real answers. Like me, they are all about reinforcing the authority of Scripture and giving glory to God as designer. We CAN and MUST take God’s Word seriously. God takes Himself seriously and expects us to take Him seriously, too.
