Beautiful. Obedient. Courageous. The true life story of Hadassah, or Esther as we often know her, is an incredible story of a brave young orphan who grew up to become a queen and a hero to her people. What a fabulous role model for our girls. The book of Esther in the Bible has always fascinated me. God’s name is not mentioned, but incredible ‘coincidences’ just seem to ‘happen’ out of the blue. Just for fun one day, make a list of them all. See God’s hand behind the scenes, clearly orchestrating all these seemingly unrelated events, just as He does in our lives and in the lives of our children.

QUEEN ESTHER ~ DEVOTIONALS / INFORMATION

Queen Esther  (Chuck Missler) The famed foiling of the wicked plot of Haman to blot out the Jews is, of course, one of the more dramatic narratives in the Bible… Orphaned as a child and brought up by her cousin, Mordecai, Esther was selected by King Ahasuerus to replace the queen when Vashti was disgraced. Haman, the prime minister, persuaded the king to issue an edict of extermination of all the Jews in the Persian Empire. Esther, on Mordecai’s advice, endangered her own life by appearing before the king without her being invited, in order to intercede for her people… The entire drama has deeper roots. Haman was a royal Amalekite, a descendant of the very king Agag whom King Saul was supposed to have slain (1 Samuel 15:1-28). If Saul had followed his instructions, there wouldn’t have been a Haman. For Saul’s failure, his kingdom was taken away. Mordecai, too, a key benefactor in the tale, was a result of David having refused to take vengeance upon Shimei so many years earlier. It was Esther’s marriage to the King of Persia that ultimately led to the rebuilding of Jerusalem.

I informed her I was the Queen of the house, but she didn’t like that too much. She set up two thrones, one for her, and one for the King. “I’m Queen Esther.” It’s the story of fairy tales: ashes to beauty, poverty to wealth, an obscure girl becomes the beloved Queen. Esther was a real woman with blood and bones, and someone who was willing to stand for her people during a turbulent time in history.

These people know that there is a God, a true and living God to whom they will answer, and they are defying Him to His face and have no sense of shame or fear of the Living God. Our freedoms and our very lives and the lives of our children are at stake, and someone needs to stand and do something. We find ourselves in a dire situation, much like the situation here in our account of Esther…
