Do you know anyone who has ever risen from the dead? We can visit the grave of EVERY other person who has ever lived and died. World famous leaders. Princes. Kings. Queens. Tyrants. Dictators. Everyone who has paraded through the pages of history, including ALL other religious leaders. They were all created beings, just like the rest of us. But if you visit the grave of our Lord Jesus Christ, you will find that it is EMPTY. Why? Jesus Christ is God… the Creator of heaven and earth, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He only needed it for the weekend!

Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures;
And that He was buried, and that He rose again
the third day according to the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Easter (or more accurately, Passover) and the Resurrection finishes off the Christmas story. That little baby in the manger grew up to die on the cross. He paid the penalty of death. For my sins. For your sins. He is THE Passover Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. It was God Himself in human form. And because of the cross, He can now offer us that forgiveness as a free gift. He was born to die, so that we could have eternal life! All we have to do is ask. And this is the Gospel – the GOOD NEWS!

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

That’s YOU! That’s me! Wow!!!

BIBLE VERSES ~ Read the eyewitness accounts of people who were actually there, for yourself!

Matthew 26–28 | Mark 14–16 | Luke 22–24 | John 13–21  Read what really happened by the true life accounts of eyewitnesses who were there in that first century. They saw what happened. Most of whom were cruelly tortured and lost their lives for insisting that it was true, and that they really had seen the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

John 1:26-34  Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 1:12  But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.

John 8:58-59  Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. [He is claiming to be God! That’s why what happened next, happened next.] Then took they up stones to cast at Him: but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 10:30-33  I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him… The Jews answered Him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

John 19:7  The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.

Isaiah 50:6-7  I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair. I hid not my face from shame and spitting. For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

Isaiah 53  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all… (and lots more; please read the whole chapter; so precious)

Psalm 22  This prophetic passage by King David reads as if it was dictated by the Lord Jesus Christ from the cross; but it was written centuries before crucifixion was even invented, and 700 years before it actually happened.

1 Corinthians 2:7-8  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory; which none of the princes of this world knew; for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

2 Corinthians 5:21  For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

1 Corinthians 15:1-6  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel… how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: and that He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve. After that, He was seen of above 500 brethren at once…

Hebrews 12:2  …who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Luke 24:44-52  And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning Me. Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things... And He led them out as far as to Bethany, and He lifted up His hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and carried up into Heaven. And they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.

Acts 1:1-11  The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after that He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen: to whom also He shewed himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days… And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward Heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into Heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven.

Mark 16:19  So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into Heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. (For how long…?)

Hosea 5:15  I will go and return to My place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek My face: in their affliction they will seek Me earnestly.

PASSOVER / BIBLICAL EASTER / RESURRECTION ~ DEVOTIONALS | PREPARING OUR HEARTS | SORTING OUT FACT FROM FICTION

Triumphal Entry  FREE article for kids, colouring pages, puzzles, crafts, paper gifts, stationery and creative ideas. This aspect of the story is what I am concentrating on for my children this year. I was astonished (and they will be, too) to learn that Daniel was given the exact date – to the very day – that the Messiah would present Himself as King! That is why Daniel’s team of Magi came to visit the Christ child at Christmas time. They had been counting… and were expecting Him. They had been warned of this great mystery. And it took a chief inspector from Scotland Yard to figure it out for the rest of us.

Daniel 69 Weeks Prophecy | Triumphant Entry Article for Kids; free printable donkeys

The Amazing Scarlet Worm  Have you heard the amazing story about the scarlet (or crimson) worm? The female adheres herself permanently to a tree, lays her eggs protectively under her body, covers herself and her eggs with a scarlet dye, and literally gives her life to feed her young. A crimson spot is left on the branch that dries out in 3 days, then changes to white as it flakes off. This tiny insect is an amazing picture of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Meshiach Nagid, the Messiah The King; read about it then share it with your child.

Free printable Bible Poster; Revelation 1:5; Jesus loved us and gave His life for us; Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood

Before Abraham was… I AM  (Chuck Missler) I love the confrontation in the Gospel of John when Jesus speaks of Abraham—“before Abraham was, I AM.” Jesus is here declaring that He is the voice of the burning bush. Now, anytime that you and I might miss the implication of something, the Pharisees come to our rescue. They took up stones to cast at Him. Why were they so upset? Because they recognized what He was saying. [Jesus was in fact executed for claiming to be God. The GREAT I AM.]

God showed how much He loved you – sermon notes  (Chuck Smith; scroll down) And in His bearing of your iniquities, He became separated from the Father. Thus the cry, “My God, My God why hast Thou forsaken Me?” But we realize that God in His plan to show you how much He loved you, forsook His Son when He took your iniquities, in order that He would not have to forsake you eternally. Oh, the mysteries and the depths of God’s love that were revealed there on Calvary, as Jesus bore your sin, and my sin, and He suffered in our place, and took our judgment. We feel like taking the shoes off of our feet whenever we talk about the things of the cross, because truly we are standing there on holy ground. As we consider God’s great love for fallen man, for you, for me… how can a person reject such a fabulous offer that God gives to man? He takes our sin and gives us His righteousness. Oh, what a glorious thing to realize; some great thoughts to share with your child.

The Blood  (happyhomefairy) When the angel saw the blood, he simply passed over the house. He didn’t open the door to peek inside and make sure everyone was behaving properly. God didn’t expect the Israelites to be perfect behind those doors. It was THE BLOOD that saved them. And that is our own sweet story, dear friends. Our lamb is Jesus. Share this wonderful thought with your child.

Good Friday, Thursday, or even maybe Wednesday?  (Chuck Missler) Jesus declared that He would be in the heart of the earth three days AND three nights. Nowhere in the Gospels does it assert that Christ was crucified on a Friday. So how does it all fit and where did this tradition come from?

What really happened?  (Chuck Missler) Busting myths and legends. Ever wondered what rabbits have to do with eggs? Most of us are aware that many Christmas traditions have pagan origins and very little to do with Biblical events. However, we may be surprised to discover that much of what we have been taught about Easter is not only in error, but deliberately so.

Passover  (Chuck Missler) Passover is perhaps the most universally familiar of the seven feasts of Moses… God told Moses that the Hebrews were to take an unblemished lamb, keep it with them for four days and then kill it. Then they were to take the blood of that lamb and put it on the doorposts and the lintels of their house… And that very night the Death Angel passed through Egypt, and houses that had the blood on the doorposts and on the lintels were “passed over” by the Death Angel and the firstborns inside were spared.

Our Riches in Christ – sermon notes  (Chuck Smith) I was once held in the bondage of sin, but through grace, Jesus paid the price to give me my freedom… Though He was rich, yet for our sakes He became poor; some great thoughts to share with your child.

Spring = God’s Promise of Eternal Life  “Not death, Toots – life. Resurrection life. Eternal life… Walter told me to come out here and see God’s promise for myself… Oh the wonder of it. The outrageous beauty. God didn’t have to give us cherry blossoms, you know. He didn’t have to make apple trees and peach trees burst into flower and fragrance. But God just loves to splurge. He gives us all this magnificence and then, if that isn’t enough, He provides fruit from such extravagance.”  Share this wonderful word picture with your child.

What about the Throne of David?  (Chuck Missler) The Throne of David is central to many of the Messianic prophecies; however, it did not exist during the Messiah’s earthly ministry. So the Thorn-crowned One has yet to assume that very Throne and to fulfill His destiny. Revelation 20 details the fulfillment… The Millennial Kingdom is a one-thousand-year literal and visible reign of Christ upon the earth during which satan is bound, Israel as a people is restored, and the Jewish Temple rebuilt. Jesus will be the King of kings ruling over a literal kingdom, in the literal land of Israel, located in the literal city of Jerusalem. The prophet Daniel lists this earthly kingdom as the fifth in a list of five… most Christians today when they pray, “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven,” have no idea what they are actually praying for—even though there are over 2,000 references in the Bible to the return of Christ to rule on… Earth!

Did Jesus rise from the dead?  (creation.com; scroll down to ‘Did Jesus rise from the dead?’) When Jesus’ disciples told Thomas that Jesus had risen from the dead, Thomas’ reaction was, “Unless I see in His hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into His side, I will never believe.” (John 20:25) And who could blame Thomas? After all, who had ever heard of anyone coming to life after being dead three days?; illustrated article for kids; free printable

Seven Markers on the Road | devotional  (answersingenesis) it’s all about the amazing resurrection of Jesus! The week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion held many big events that help us understand what He did for us. Just as we use road signs to know where we are during a car trip, we can use objects to help us remember everything about that week. These seven “mile markers” will help you understand what happened, and why Jesus’ death and resurrection are so important. As you remember Jesus’ death and resurrection, your family can use these daily readings to talk about the events 2,000 years ago.

Seven C’s of Gospel History: Christ | alternative link  (creation.com; scroll down to ‘Seven C’s of Gospel History #6 Christ’) Jesus was one of us; Jesus died for us; Jesus rose from the dead; How do I receive forgiveness of sins?; illustrated article for kids; free printable

What is your favourite Crucifixion/Resurrection reflection?  Isaiah 53 is a well known reflection about the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. Psalm 22 reads as though it was dictated from the cross. But I had never thought of Lamentations 3 as a reflection for this event before. Have you?

A glimpse into Christ’s suffering by a modern medical doctor  (answersingenesis) The physical suffering that Jesus willingly endured was beyond horrific. To understand the extent of His suffering is to get a better glimpse of His love for us and the price He was willing to pay to redeem each and every one of us. It is freely available to all. The choice is ours.

Every time we will look at His face we will know how much we are loved  Ever wondered why nobody seemed to recognise the Lord Jesus after the resurrection, until He spoke to them or showed them His hands? I wonder if these two Bible | verses are a clue. Chuck Missler has a look at this strange mystery…

THINK SPOT

Question. How many of your sins were yet future when Jesus hung on that cross 2000 years ago? Answer. ALL of them! How many of your sins were a surprise to Him? Answer: None of them. Remember that if you are ever tempted to think that ‘the rest is up to you now,’ or that you need to be ‘good enough,’ or that you need to ‘try harder’ to ‘earn’ your salvation. We can NEVER add to what Jesus has done on the cross. That’s blasphemy. Or that you have blown it ‘too badly’ to ever be forgiven. We all have. Remember the Christians’ bar of soap – 1 John 1:9. IF we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It was written TO people who were ALREADY Christians. NONE of us ‘deserve’ to be forgiven. That’s why it’s such a very precious gift. “Neither do I condemn thee. Go, and sin no more.” (John 8:11)

C.S. LEWIS QUOTE:  “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice… You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

THINK SPOT

  • Have you ever stopped to think about the crucifixion from the Father’s perspective? He could have called a halt to the whole thing at any time, and instead sent us a lightning bolt. ‘Enough! They are not worth it!’ But He did not. How much He must have loved you and me to stand by and allow His one and only dearly beloved Son to be tortured so badly and treated so arrogantly by rebellious, sinful humanity, to pay the penalty of death for our sin, so that we could have an opportunity to live with Him forever. All we have to do is ask.
  • What a roller coaster the disciples had been on! From the victory of the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, their hopes and dreams had been completely shattered with the death of the Lord Jesus on the cross. Then from the ashes of despair to unbelievable joy at His Resurrection, their hearts burning with His teaching of the word of God during the 40 days after His resurrection. But now it’s time to say goodbye again. For how long, they don’t know. Jesus had been rejected as Messiah by the leaders of His own people. They do know that He will return to Heaven and are told to expect His imminent return back to Earth at any moment, and their subsequent teaching reflects this. Little did they realize how long it would be. What is | He waiting for?

THINK SPOT

  • Either the Father or the Son – at any point – could have said, “Enough already! The price is too high. They are not worth it!”…  But they did not. Thankfully. Our freedom was not cheap. It costs us nothing. It cost Him everything. G.R.A.C.E = God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.
  • “There is nothing beautiful about a cross. The Romans used it to execute their worst criminals. The representative of the known ruler of the world declared Jesus Christ innocent of all charges. But the Lord Jesus turned the cross into a beautiful thing when He gave his life for our sins and the sins of the world. Barabbas was our representative. He went free. The innocent died for the guilty. Jesus died in his (and our) place. God can make all things beautiful, even the ugliest thing.” — Unknown
  • “Jesus Christ is on every single page of the Bible, even in the Old Testament. When we discover that, it totally changes our perspective. Look for Him on every page.” — Chuck Missler

  • Resurrection Treasure Hunt

Note A Resurrection Treasure Hunt is an activity for children to learn the true meaning of ‘Easter,’ which more accurately should be called ‘Passover,’ as it is in the original Greek (click on ‘view entry’) of the New Testament. At this time of year, many children are excited about ‘Easter egg hunts’ which has NOTHING to do with the Saviour of the world paying the penalty of death for our sins and being resurrected back to life. Think about it. What do rabbits have to do with eggs? A little research will uncover a very different story. A ‘Resurrection Treasure Hunt’ to find the true meaning of this celebration could be a fun alternative. For something different, try a sunset or night-time treasure hunt, and make your own glow-in-the-dark eggs using plastic eggs and mini glowsticks. You could also use flameless tea lights, finger lights, glow-in-the-dark spray paint, or glow-in-the-dark hair spray. Add some glitter hair spray for extra fun. You may even think of something better than plastic eggs to hide your treasures in. For anyone doing a resurrection treasure hunt activity with your family or friends, here are some cute and easy ideas for a pretty tulle basket. Fill your basket with Christ-centred items like FREE Bible bookmarks, Bible wallet cards, Bible posters, colouring pages, puzzles and craft activities from this post, little Scripture verses rolled up into scrolls, etc to give away or to use as prizes. Do the treasure hunt activity with your own family and send the photos to your sponsored child.
