Elijah. What an amazing life of adventure this prophet of God had. He lived during a time of great apostasy in his nation. He challenged kings, was fed by wild ravens during a time of great drought, then was used by God to perform miracles of providing food for a widow and raising her son from death. He challenged Israel and hundreds of pagan prophets to a public contest calling for fire from Heaven. Then when it came and the people fell on their faces before the Lord, he prayed for rain to end the drought, and ran before the king’s chariot back to town during the storm. Threatened by an evil queen after the great victory, he ran for his life, was fed by an angel in the desert, then discovered the still, small voice of the Lord. He called down fire from Heaven on two separate groups sent by the king to arrest him. After appointing Elisha as his successor, he used his mantle to strike and divide the waters of the Jordan River, then was taken up to Heaven in a whirlwind by a chariot of fire drawn by horses of fire. Elijah’s epic showdown between good and evil reverberates across our world today. Just like the people his courageous words were spoken to then, we are all faced with two voices, two choices, and the consequences are eternal. 1 Kings 17 Read the true story of this incredible and brave man of God, Elijah, which starts in 1 Kings 17 and goes up to 2 Kings chapter 2.
1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
1 Kings 18:36-39 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

ELIJAH ~ INFORMATION ~ FREE PRINTABLE
Spiritual Warfare (Nancy Missler) …if we are going to be true worshipers of God, now more than ever before we need to be knowledgeable in the art of spiritual warfare. We need to know the enemy—his tactics and his ways—because, believe me, we are going to need this wisdom… part of our prayer time in the Holy Place must be concerned with asking the Father to expose the enemy, to bind him in Jesus’ Name and to loose any strongholds that have been established. When we are lukewarm Christians, having only a “form of godliness” (2 Timothy 3:5), the devil doesn’t really seem to bother with us. Why should he? As my Chuck often says, “Many of us are undercover Christians—i.e. no one knows we are,” so the enemy leaves us alone. Let us begin to worship and love the Lord with all our heart, mind and soul. Then, watch out! We’re in for a real battle… The reason this happens is that our mortal enemy not only hates God, he also hates anyone who wants to follow Him… 1 Kings 18 tells the story of a severe drought. In the third year of the drought, the Lord said to Elijah, “Go and present yourself to King Ahab and tell him I will soon send rain.” Elijah did as he was told and asked the king to bring all the people of Israel to Mt.Carmel, along with 450 prophets of Baal and 400 priests of Ashorah, who were supported by Jezebel, the king’s wife. Elijah wanted to prove to them who the true God was, saying: “If the Lord be God, follow Him; but if Baal, then follow him,” (1 Kings 18:21). What happened next was that the pagan priests and prophets danced, wailed and cried all night long for their god to show his strength, but nothing happened. Then Elijah got up, called on the Name of the Lord and “fire immediately came down from heaven and consumed his offering”… The battle on Mount Carmel was not between Elijah and the prophets of Baal, but between good and evil, the Lord and the devil…
Spiritual Warfare – The key to Joy (Nancy Missler) The reason the enemy is after worshipers is because they are “dangerous.” Their lives are radically changing, others are seeing it and wanting what they have. Worshipers become living examples of Christ’s character – filled with His Love, His Wisdom and His joy, even in the hard times. This genuineness will revolutionize the church! And the enemy knows it. Thus, he will do anything he can to stop it. Last month we also studied the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 18, because this is exactly what’s happening to many worshipers today. Jezebel represents the enemy in the story of Elijah. She was his tool to bring confusion, disorder and turmoil into Elijah’s life. And it almost worked. Well, in these end times, the spirit of Jezebel is back (Revelation 2:19-22) and she is trying to do the exact same thing in many of our lives. When we determine to worship the Lord and live totally for Him, she will use the same tactics she used with Elijah. Again, the enemy’s main targets today are worshipers, people in leadership and those totally surrendered to the Lord. These are the ones the spirit of Jezebel marks to break their will and their spirit. This seducing spirit wants to rob them of their desire to serve the Lord and to quench their hope in Him… seems to attack through three main areas: discouragement, confusion and depression… and despair leads to defeat… The spirit of Jezebel wants us to depart from the fruit of the Spirit to the poison of self. And she delights when we try to combat others’ actions in our own strength and power and wisdom. Bitterness, resentment, etc., will never cast out Jezebel but only increase her powers. The only antidotes to her attacks are repentance, love and warfare… What the enemy fears the most is repentance.
