Butterfly ~ FREE Article for Kids

Butterfly article for kids giving glory to God as designer; free printable

A GOD WHO DESIGNS HUMMINGBIRDS AND BUTTERFLIES *MUST* BE A GOOD GOD!

I had to do it! It was those photos a friend sent me of the gorgeous butterflies taken under a high powered microscope and magnified up to 5000 times which sparked it. After seeing their incredible mini design features ~ I mean, structural grids and tiny crossbars on a butterfly wing?! ~ I just had to tell my sponsored children about it. To inspire them to want to know this magnificent Creator God who loves them so deeply. The One who put so much care into a fragile butterfly to make it beautiful, also has a beautiful plan ~ and the power to carry it out ~ for their life, too.

OTHER LANGUAGES / PRINT / LAMINATE TIPS

For other sponsored children who are NOT English or French speaking, articles can still be sent to them, but you may like to make sure to include all revelant text in your letter so that it gets translated. If you would like to do this for your child, you are welcome to ‘copy and paste’ any of my text which is included below. For your homeschool students, laminate the articles for best results and to keep it looking nice. If you print this particular article on photo paper, it will bring out all the brilliant butterfly colours. When I printed mine on plain paper, the iridescent colours didn’t look anywhere near as good, although laminating did help a little. Print an extra copy for a friend!

WHAT TO SEND WITH IT?

And now, with so many great FREE Butterfly colouring pages, puzzles, crafts and creative ideas to choose from, comes the hardest part… what to send with it?! I’ve definitely decided on some pretty watercolour butterflies and a butterfly gift box for my girls. The boys are a bit harder. I’m still thinking about them. I found some challenging mazes in the shape of a butterfly to start with. I’ll put them both on the one page and recolour them to make them look more interesting. Maybe I’ll add some scientific photos of butterflies taken under the microscope. I found a great Scripture picture puzzle with butterflies on it: Christ takes our sins and gives us His goodness – based on 2 Corinthians 5:21 – and that’s also available in Spanish and Tagalog. I’ve made a zany caterpillar bookmark with sunglasses, and a Monarch butterfly Bible verse card, that are also available in French. Both have 2 Corinthians 5:17 on it: When anyone is joined to Christ he is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come. And that’s just the start… check my Butterfly – links post for all these ideas and more.

Superb Butterflies ~ Delicate and fragile, butterflies are superb masterpieces of God’s exquisite design!

Butterfly Art Gallery

I just LOVE butterflies! Don’t you? They are so delicate and pretty. Brilliant little flying machines, they come complete with high technology antennas and in-built GPS. That tells them exactly where they are, anywhere on earth. But they do not start out life as butterflies, did you know that? They start out as a tiny egg. Some of these photos were taken under a high powered microscope and magnified up to 5000 times! If you look closely, you may be able to spot a tiny caterpillar growing inside one of those eggs. Or see inside a butterfly wing. How cool is that!

When the baby caterpillar (or larva) hatches, it eats and eats. And then eats some more. Munch, munch, munch! Yum! It grows so fast, it has to change its coat (shed its skin) several times! Then one day, the caterpillar stops eating. It spins a patch of silk onto a twig and hangs upside down from it, by a set of special hooks. It puts on a protective sleeping bag (chrysalis or pupa) and then does not move. It may even look dead! But inside, an incredible miracle is taking place. The caterpillar dissolves into chemical soup and a brand new butterfly is built! This is called ‘metamorphosis.’

When it emerges, they have beautiful wings. All the tiny microscopic scales are lined up exactly right to give them their pretty colours and patterns. They already know how to fly. Caterpillars don’t fly. And some butterflies travel thousands of miles. How do they know how to do that? Everything they need is written on the DNA in that tiny caterpillar egg, before they even hatch! Many people have been persuaded to think God’s superb designs happened all by themselves over millions of years. But this is clearly impossible! It requires astonishing intelligence to design living things. No human could sit down and make a butterfly or a caterpillar, no matter how clever they are. Butterflies are exquisite masterpieces of God’s design! He is the Master Artist! Butterflies also remind us that death is not the end of life. It is just the beginning. For all those who love Jesus, one day He will give us brand new, beautiful bodies, too.
