Summer is a great time for butterflies. I was watching a cute little guy kneeling on a pink flower this morning. He gently felt around for the opening of the flower and then swiftly dipped into it, delight all the way up to his eyes. Then he skipped to the next flower. Kneel. Probe. Dip. Mmmm, I just love ‘Papa God’s busy little critters’, don’t you?!

“YES! A GOD WHO DESIGNS HUMMINGBIRDS AND BUTTERFLIES… MUST… BE A GOOD GOD!”
It was on a particularly dark day in my own life when a stunning and delicate butterfly floated past me, flashing beautiful iridescent colours in the sunlight. A surprising thought came to me, first as a troubling question that had the potential to crush and destroy my faith, and then as a choice…
“Yes! A God who designs hummingbirds and butterflies must be a good God!”
And so began my love of creation. It’s the living art gallery of THE Master Artiste. When God met Job, He pointed Job to creation and back to the Creator behind it, Himself. A GOOD God, who has the power to create all this ~ the universe that we live in ~ with only His spoken Word, also has the power to look after us and our problems, no matter how big or how desperate they might seem. And all of God’s designs show us the character of God. Hence my conclusion that dark day that turbo-charged my faith… a God who created delicate butterflies and tiny hummingbirds must be a good God!

Two designs with tiny butterflies and dots. Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to design a butterfly?! It took me hours to get just the outline to look right for this stationery set. Good thing I wasn’t trying to get it to fly or reproduce itself. Ha! How can something that looks so easy and natural, be so hard? It’s always the way when something is done by a Master. Many years ago, I watched someone making a natural looking waterfall. It took them ages, too. Rocks in. Rocks out. More rocks in. More rocks out. They came to the same conclusion. God ~ THE Master Designer ~ makes it all look too easy!

BUTTERFLY ~ CRAFT FOR KIDS ~ FREE PRINTABLE (A4)
You never know where the next whisper of inspiration will come from. I was fascinated when I first saw this craft idea on a sponsor forum. It is a great example of how we all learn and grow from each other. Someone comes up with an idea. Someone else takes it and runs with it. If you recognise this as your idea, please leave a comment so I can give you credit. It was part of a lapbook, and the caterpillar was hanging out of one of the pockets. I just had to try it out. Isn’t it neat? Download, print, cut, then just fold along the black line. Turn it over and draw the caterpillar lines on the back. Then open it out. A caterpillar turns into a butterfly! And no chemical soup!

HOW TO: After you have printed out your butterflies; cut them out; then fold each butterfly in half lengthways along the black line in the centre (so as not to fold any part of the wings); and draw your caterpillar on the back as per the diagram. For my younger girls, I cut and folded one to show them what to do, and included a colourful pocket for their caterpillar to sit in. I cut two ‘jeans-style’ pockets out of pretty scrapbook paper ~ simply a square with a jeans-shaped slight ‘V’ along one edge ~ and glued them together around the bottom and side edges, so the caterpillar could sit inside the pocket and peek out of the top. Any craft paper or gift wrapping paper is great for this. Or you could even have your caterpillar sitting in a jazzed up envelope. Little ones love things peeking out of pockets!
