Have you ever watched a loved one struggling with pain, disability, illness or having to ration their energy just to make it through a day and wanted to understand? This is for you.

Two friends were sharing some light hearted fun and laughs at a diner. The atmosphere turned awkward when one of the friends – Christine – stopped to take her medicine. The other looked pensive, then suddenly asked what it was like to be her, to feel sick. A little stunned, but thinking quickly, Christine grabbed up all the spoons she could find from the tables around them, and handed her startled friend a bouquet of spoons. The impromptu demonstration was so effective it not only helped her friend understand, it has also helped many other people understand their loved ones, too. It has now been translated into Spanish, French and Hebrew.

“She grabbed the spoons with excitement. She didn’t understand what I was doing, but she is always up for a good time, so I guess she thought I was cracking a joke of some kind like I usually do when talking about touchy topics. Little did she know how serious I would become…”
