BIBLE VERSES

Exodus 20:11  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Job 12:7-10  But ask now the beasts and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you. Or speak to the earth and it shall teach you; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto you. Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.

Psalm 95:5-6  The sea is His, and He made it; and His hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

Isaiah 40:12  Who else has held the oceans in His hand?

DID YOU KNOW:  WHALE FUN FACTS

  • The Blue Whale is the largest animal – ever. While dinosaurs may have been longer from nose to tail, blue whales win by sheer bulk.
  • The tongue of a blue whale is as heavy as an elephant.
  • Blue whales are louder than a jet engine, but we need special equipment to hear them.
  • Whales can spray water into the air higher than a giraffe.
  • One blue whale is about as long as 5 giraffes standing on top of each other.
  • The heart of a blue whale is as heavy as two cows – or a small car.
  • The sonar system of whales is so precise that it’s the envy of the U.S. Navy.
  • Blue whales have massive folds of skin under their chins called “ventral groove blubber” that expand like an accordion to collect schools of fish, eating up to 4 tons a day.
  • A baby blue whale is already half the length of an Olympic-sized swimming pool when born.

WHALE ~ INFORMATION FOR KIDS ~ FREE PRINTABLE

Wonderful whales  (creation.com) Cetaceans (whales and dolphins) are actually mammals, not fish. They have many unique features to enable them to live in water:

  • Enormous lungs that work efficiently for long dives.
  • A powerful tail enables very strong swimming.
  • Eyes designed to see clearly in water.
  • Skin with fibrous, fatty blubber.
  • Nostrils on the top of the head (blowholes).
  • Baleen whales have sheets of baleen (whalebone) that hang from the roof of the mouth and filter plankton for food.
  • Many cetaceans find objects by echo-location. They have a sonar system which is so precise that it’s the envy of the U.S. Navy. It can detect a fish the size of a golf ball 230 feet (70 m) away.
  • One amazing feature of most echo-locating dolphins and small whales is the ‘melon,’ a fatty protrusion on the forehead. This ‘melon’ is actually a sound lens—a sophisticated structure designed to focus the emitted sound waves into a beam which they can direct where it likes.

Baleen Whales  (creation.com) Some of the largest animals ever to exist on the earth are the baleen whales, including the largest of all, the blue whale, about 30 metres (100 ft) long and weighing about 200 tonnes… they gulp enormous amounts of water into their mouths… This is expelled through comb-like bristly plates of baleen… Shrimp-like animals called krill, as well as small fish, are caught and swept up… The largest group of baleen whales, including the blue, are rorquals (Balaenopteridae), which have pleated folds of skin running lengthwise along the lower jaw. These enable the mouth to expand enormously.

Rorqual Whales  (icr.org) scientists discovered a unique sensory organ in the jaw of a rorqual whale—the world’s largest creature. Rorqual whales, which include the blue whale and fin whale, feed by ballooning out folds of tissue that bag gobs of krill from fertile ocean waters. Some of those researchers described the unique bungee-cord-like nerve construction that illustrates clever and intentional design; information from scientists who take the Bible seriously.

Meet Hydro the Blue Whale  (answersingenesis) Have you ever been to a zoo and seen an elephant? It probably looked really big to you, but it sure wouldn’t to me. You see, my tongue can weigh as much as an elephant! Blue whales like me are among the largest animals to have ever lived… The blue whale should remind us of a “whale of a problem” that’s on earth—sin.

Blue whales – fun facts for kids  (answersingenesis) information from scientists who take the Bible seriously; …the biggest animal to ever have lived… They will swallow a massive mouthful of water and then force the water out of their mouths through their baleen plates. Thousands of tiny shrimp-like creatures called krill get stuck in their baleen… They eat up to 4 tons of krill every day!

  • A blue whale’s heart can weigh as much as a small car.
  • Their tongue can weigh as much as much as an elephant.
  • Blue whales are louder than a jet engine! They can be heard hundreds or even thousands of miles away. But they don’t make noise at a frequency we can hear with our ears…
  • Baby whales are 25 feet (8 meters) long and weigh 3 tons (2.7 metric tons) when they are born.
  • The spray from a blue whale’s blowhole can reach up to 30 feet (9 meters) into the air.

Blue whale: The Mammoth of the Sea  (answersingenesis) What is the largest animal of all time—even larger than the dinosaurs? The answer is the blue whale. While some dinosaurs were longer from nose to tail, the blue whale still tops them in sheer bulk.

Beluga Whale – information for kids  (answersingenesis) information from scientists who take the Bible seriously; The beluga whale is known for its milky white skin. Young are gray or pinkish brown at birth but fade to white as they grow.

Ways that Whales display their Creator  (icr.org) They don’t have teeth, but instead use comb-like bristles called “baleen” lining their giant mouths to retain tiny animals from sea water… Baleen whales need many parts linked in precise proportions and strengths in order to lunge feed…

Whales inspire turbine designs  (icr.org) For decades human design engineers have been labouring to make more efficient machines, like propeller blades that produce steady airflow patterns. Our thinking has been fixed on the idea that smooth surfaces are the best basic form, but studies on whales and dolphins are changing that; information from scientists who take the Bible seriously

80 Whales buried mysteriously in a Chilean desert  (creation.com) is evidence for Noah’s flood. Excavations uncovered the remains of some 80 baleen whales of which more than 20 specimens were complete. They also found other kinds of marine mammals including an extinct dolphin with tusks and a sperm whale.

Dead whales tell tales  (creation.com) How did over 300 whales, porpoises, turtles, seals, fish, and land animals such as ground sloths and penguins end up being catastrophically buried together in Peru? It’s amazing evidence of the rapid, catastrophic burial that happened during Noah’s flood.

Blubber gloves  (answersingenesis) God designed a clever coat of insulation that makes life a breeze for animals that call the arctic their home

Whale | Blue Whale | Beluga Whale  (creationwiki) lots of cool facts to share with your child from a Biblical perspective

Whale evolution?  (answersingenesis) Many museums present a nice, orderly succession of fossils that supposedly show a transition from land animals to water animals. However there are many problems with that idea. Information from scientists who take the Bible seriously

WHALE ~ COLOURING FOR KIDS ~ FREE PRINTABLE

Whale – colouring  (answersingenesisvbs) Hydro the whale reminds us there is a whale of a problem; and just like Noah, we can rely on God to help us stand for Him. Every day, our kids are challenged to stand for God in their schools, among their friends, in our culture… no matter what. And they’re bombarded with the lie that God’s Word isn’t true when it talks about earthly things (rocks, fossils), so it can’t be trusted to tell the truth about spiritual things. Noah experienced the same challenges during the time of the great Flood thousands of years ago. Yet, by God’s grace, he was able to stand for God, obey God, trust God, thank God, and fear God… no matter what. The biggest watery catastrophe the world has ever known happened during his lifetime. But through it all, Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord; free printable
