DID YOU KNOW:  Recent DNA sequencing data confirm that all cats ~ big cats and small cats ~ share a common genetic ancestry, just as big dogs and little dogs do. This makes them all part of the same original created cat-KIND or family. Read more. And you can see a cat-KIND hybridization chart here to see how it all fits together. You always suspected that there was a tiger sitting on your sofa, didn’t you?!

TIGER – Fast, Ferocious and Furious

Look at this big guy sitting there calmly licking his paw! Isn’t he beautiful?! Just like a giant pussy-cat! He looks like he might even like a scratch behind his ear! Gulp! Maybe! And one zoo in Thailand has pigs snuggling up to tigers! Huh?! What is going on? Aren’t tigers—the largest members of the cat family—supposed to be fast, furious and ferocious?

God made all the animals that live on land—including the cat-KIND—on Day 6 of Creation week in the very first week of history. He looked at everything that He had made and declared that it was ‘very good’. God created a perfect world. There was no death, no pain, no disease, no suffering and definitely no tigers eating pigs! But sadly, creation changed forever when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and the virus called ‘sin’ entered the world. It became a brutal world of death and violence—just as God had warned—with animals having to hunt and kill just to find food. Where we now have to work hard to make things grow. And where it is much easier for us to not be very nice to each other, either. It infected us too. When we look at creation and see death and suffering all around us, we know deep down that something has gone terribly, horribly wrong. In fact, the Bible tells us in Romans 8 that the whole of creation groans. Oh no! God’s perfect creation was broken. Could it ever be fixed?

Thankfully, God did not abandon us, as He could have. All around us are reminders of His care. God gave protective defences—like nasty chemicals or camouflage (as with tigers)—to help big and small creatures survive or find food. God Himself came to Earth—as Jesus—to offer us a new relationship with Him and a cure for the deadly virus called ‘sin’. Best of all, God is making a NEW heavens and a NEW earth. Everything will be restored to how it was in the beginning—PERFECT! God will wipe away all our tears. There will be no more death, no more grief, no more crying and no more pain for those who believe in Him. Wolves and lambs will eat together, lions will eat straw like cows. And it will be completely normal for tigers and pigs to cuddle up together.

DID YOU KNOW: God created every animal to reproduce after its own ‘KIND’ or family. So when Mrs Tiger has her babies, do we see baby cows? No! A cow cannot breed with a tiger! Without even looking, we know that she would have 2-6 baby tiger cubs in her litter. Only animals descended from the same created KIND can breed. In fact, this is one test to find out if animals are from the same KIND. Did you know that lions and tigers can breed? A male lion and a female tiger—both of the ‘cat KIND’—can have a baby ‘liger’. A male tiger and a female lion can have a baby ‘tigon’. Although they are now regarded as different species: tigers, lions, leopards, jaguars, mountain lions, cheetahs, other smaller cats and even pet cats—most likely all came from the same original ‘cat KIND’. God created all animals with lots of design features and the ability to fine-tune them, through natural selection (breeding)—so they could live in different environments—BUT ONLY WITHIN THEIR KIND. The oldest cat-family fossil that has ever been found is still… a cat!

TIGER FACTS: Tigers ‘talk’ to each other by rubbing heads, grunting, purring, and roaring. Their roar is so loud, it can be heard up to 3km (2 miles) away. No two tigers have the same stripe pattern. Some Siberian (or Amur) tigers have stunning white coats behind their stripes. Mrs Tiger takes care of her babies for 2-3 years because there are lots of skills they will need to survive on their own. They are nocturnal and can live up to 10 years. Their back legs are longer than their front legs, which helps them hunt and jump. They are powerful swimmers and can cross rivers up to 8km (5 miles) wide. Tigers like lots of room to roam around in and are very protective of their territory. They mark it with scent to warn rivals to stay away—or else there will be big trouble! God created so many wonderful things for us to care for and enjoy. Things that are beautiful…. intricate… mysterious… perfect. To teach us about Him. To show us how wonderful, magnificent, wise and powerful He is. So that we will worship Him. Jesus! God the Creator!

Information from: creation.com – a fabulous site with lots of scientific information from a Biblical perspective. Got pesky questions about science and God? This is the place you will find real answers. Like this blog, it is all about reinforcing the authority of Scripture and giving glory to God as designer. Remember, God says what He means and means what He says. We CAN and MUST take His Word seriously. If He meant something else, He would have said something else.

…whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
