From cover to cover, the Bible is a beautiful patchwork quilt. Every page is a smaller piece of the bigger story of God’s love and redemption for mankind through our Lord Jesus Christ. Creation was just the beginning of this beautiful and amazing love story. Simply by speaking, God created everything ‘ex nihilo’ – out of nothing. Wow! One word from God and the universe happened. On Day 2 of creation, God continued to prepare the earth, His jewel in the universe, for His incredible gift… life. In this post you will find FREE colouring pages, printables, information and activities to teach kids more about this amazing week…

Creation Day 2 ~ Heavens Above, Waters Below, Air, Sky, Atmosphere
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. Genesis 1: 6-8
He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. Job 26:8
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in. Isaiah 40:22
The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him. Zechariah 12:1
Nehemiah 9:6 You, even You, are LORD alone; You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and you preserve them all; and the host of heaven worship thee.

Day 2 – Heavens above, water below – article for kids (creation.com) and water memory card game (scroll down); fun and free printable; On the second day of Creation Week, God continued His work of preparing the earth so that plants could grow in it, and animals and people could live on it. The Bible says that on this day He made an ‘expanse’ around the earth, and that this ‘separated the water under the expanse from the water above it’. God called the expanse the ‘heaven’, which we might call ‘sky’. This is the atmosphere, the air we breathe and the space beyond.
Creation – Seven Cs of Gospel history – article for kids (creation.com) fun and free printable; On the second day of Creation Week, God continued his work of preparing the earth so that plants could grow in it, and animals and people could live on it. He did this by making the atmosphere around the earth. The atmosphere contains the air we breathe. It is made up of oxygen, nitrogen, and small amounts of other gases, all in just the right mixture for you to live. The atmosphere also contains water vapour that condenses to form clouds. All this happened because God ordered it to happen.
Earth was created for life (icr.org) Location! Location! Location! Our solar system is filled with amazing planets, but none are perfect for life except the earth. Print off one of these free articles or share a snippet of these amazing facts with your child.

Gravity is the string that keeps things in orbit (Answers in Genesis) Gravity holds us firmly on the ground and keeps the earth circling the sun. This invisible force also draws down rain from the sky and causes the daily ocean tides. It keeps the earth in a spherical shape, and prevents our atmosphere from escaping into space. It would seem that this everyday gravity force should be one of the best understood concepts in science. However, just the opposite is true. In many ways, gravity remains a profound mystery. Gravity provides a stunning example of the limits of current scientific knowledge… if gravity ceased for one moment, instant chaos surely would result. All heavenly objects, including the earth, moon and stars, would no longer hold together. Everything would immediately disintegrate into small fragments. So what is it?
Earth’s Water Cycle Protects and Provides (icr.org) Clouds function as earth’s curtains, balancing the temperature. When they form, they block the sun when the temperature on earth becomes too hot, and they let the sunlight in when it becomes too cold. When the earth is hot, more water evaporates from the oceans and turns into clouds. These clouds reflect more energy and the earth cools. When the earth is cold, the clouds cool and condense into rain and snow. With fewer clouds, less energy is reflected. The energy reaches the earth and warms it. The earth has the most diverse collection of reflective surfaces in our solar system. Water is the most abundant chemical compound on earth. Water covers three fourths of the earth’s surface.

101 scientific facts written in the Bible centuries before they were discovered print off the whole 101 facts or share a snippet with your child in each letter; like these:
- Oceans contain springs (Job 38:16). The ocean is very deep. Almost all the ocean floor is in total darkness and the pressure there is enormous. It would have been impossible for Job to have explored the “springs of the sea.” Until recently, it was thought that oceans were fed only by rivers and rain. Yet in the 1970s, with the help of deep diving research submarines that were constructed to withstand 6,000 pounds-per-square-inch pressure, oceanographers discovered springs on the ocean floors.
- 3000 years ago the Bible described ocean currents, the “paths of the seas” (Psalm 8:8). In the 19th century Matthew Maury – the father of oceanography – after reading Psalm 8, researched and discovered ocean currents that follow specific paths through the seas. Utilizing Maury’s data, marine navigators have since reduced ocean travel by many days.
- Hydrological cycle described (Ecclesiastes 1:7; Jeremiah 10:13; Amos 9:6). 4000 years ago the Bible declared that God “draws up drops of water, which distill as rain from the mist, which the clouds drop down and pour abundantly on man” (Job 36:27-28). The ancients observed mighty rivers flowing into the ocean, but they could not conceive why the sea level never rose. They observed rainfall, but had only quaint theories as to its origin. Meteorologists now understand that the hydrological cycle consists of evaporation, atmospheric transportation, distillation, and precipitation.
- The earth free-floats in space (Job 26:7), affected only by gravity. Other sources declared the earth sat on the back of an elephant or turtle, or was held up by Atlas. The Bible alone states what we now know to be true – “He hangs the earth on nothing.”
- The earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22). At a time when many thought the earth was flat, the Bible told us that the earth is spherical. …and many more…
Genesis 1 for kids – teaching notes The evidence of creation is all around us; there is a huge difference between random chance and intelligence
Ephesians 1:4-7 tells us that God chose us before the foundation of the world. Amazing.
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.

nextmanga.com (for purchase) The story of the universe in manga form. A comic book Bible series that keeps kids/teens (and adults!) riveted. Book 1 (Mutiny) tells the story starting from creation in Genesis 1 and up to time of the Exodus from Egypt (somewhere around Exodus 15). And I love how they have added a few extra frames of background history to give a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the true villain of history. The top angel (a created being like us) rebels against the Creator; is kicked out of Heaven; becomes God’s arch enemy; and arrives on earth to create mischief, mayhem and havoc with (as he sneers) ‘God’s favoured ones’ – humans. To rob, kill and destroy. Buy and send a few pages at a time. It’s also an excellent gift idea for a sponsor visit. My kids loved these. Monica told us that it was her favourite book. :)
