CREATION DAY 2 ~ Heavens Above, Waters Below, Air, Sky, Atmosphere

BIBLE VERSES

Genesis 1:6-8  And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Job 26:8  He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.

Isaiah 40:22  It is He that sits upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in.

Isaiah 45:12  I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even My hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Jeremiah 10:12  He hath made the earth by His power, He hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His discretion.

Isaiah 42:5-6  Thus saith God the LORD, He that created the heavens, and stretched them out; He that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; He that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee…

Zechariah 12:1  The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretches forth the heavens, and lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him.

Nehemiah 9:6  You, even You, are LORD alone; You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and you preserve them all; and the host of heaven worship you.

Ephesians 1:4-7  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. (God chose us before the foundation of the world. Amazing.)

CREATION DAY 2 ~ INFORMATION FOR KIDS ~ FREE PRINTABLE

Day 2 – Heavens above, water below – article for kids  (creation.com) On the second day of Creation Week, God continued His work of preparing the Earth so that plants could grow in it, and animals and people could live on it. The Bible says that on this day He made an ‘expanse’ around the Earth, and that this ‘separated the water under the expanse from the water above it’. God called the expanse the ‘heaven’, which we might call ‘sky’. This is the atmosphere, the air we breathe and the space beyond; illustrated article from scientists who take the Bible seriously

Creation – Seven C’s of Gospel history – article for kids  (creation.com) On the second day of Creation Week, God continued his work of preparing the earth so that plants could grow in it, and animals and people could live on it. He did this by making the atmosphere around the earth. The atmosphere contains the air we breathe. It is made up of oxygen, nitrogen, and small amounts of other gases, all in just the right mixture for you to live. The atmosphere also contains water vapour that condenses to form clouds. All this happened because God ordered it to happen; fun, beautifully illustrated article from scientists who take the Bible seriously

Genesis 1 for kids – teaching notes  (Christiananswers) The evidence of creation is all around us; there is a huge difference between random chance and intelligence

Earth was created for life  (icr.org) Location! Location! Location! Our solar system is filled with amazing planets, but none are perfect for life except the earth. Print off one of these free articles or share a snippet of these amazing facts with your child.

Earth’s Water Cycle Protects and Provides  (icr.org)  from scientists who take the Bible seriously; Clouds function as earth’s curtains, balancing the temperature. When they form, they block the sun when the temperature on earth becomes too hot, and they let the sunlight in when it becomes too cold. When the Earth is hot, more water evaporates from the oceans and turns into clouds. These clouds reflect more energy and the Earth cools. When the Earth is cold, the clouds cool and condense into rain and snow. With fewer clouds, less energy is reflected. The energy reaches the earth and warms it. The Earth has the most diverse collection of reflective surfaces in our solar system. Water is the most abundant chemical compound on earth. Water covers three fourths of the earth’s surface.

Genesis 1 – Bible commentaries  (blueletterBible) include a snippet in your letter or print off a whole article for older children; tons of wonderful information here (both audio and text – my favourite is Dr Chuck Missler)

101 scientific facts written in the Bible centuries before they were discovered  (eternal-productions) print off all 101 facts or share a snippet with your child in each letter. Here’s a sample:

  1. Oceans contain springs (Job 38:16). The ocean is very deep. Almost all the ocean floor is in total darkness and the pressure there is enormous. It would have been impossible for Job to have explored the “springs of the sea.” Until recently, it was thought that oceans were fed only by rivers and rain. Yet in the 1970s, with the help of deep diving research submarines that were constructed to withstand 6,000 pounds-per-square-inch pressure, oceanographers discovered springs on the ocean floors.
  2. 3000 years ago the Bible described ocean currents, the “paths of the seas” (Psalm 8:8). In the 19th century Matthew Maury – the father of oceanography – after reading Psalm 8, researched and discovered ocean currents that follow specific paths through the seas. Utilizing Maury’s data, marine navigators have since reduced ocean travel by many days.
  3. Hydrological cycle described (Ecclesiastes 1:7; Jeremiah 10:13; Amos 9:6). 4000 years ago the Bible declared that God “draws up drops of water, which distill as rain from the mist, which the clouds drop down and pour abundantly on man” (Job 36:27-28). The ancients observed mighty rivers flowing into the ocean, but they could not conceive why the sea level never rose. They observed rainfall, but had only quaint theories as to its origin. Meteorologists now understand that the hydrological cycle consists of evaporation, atmospheric transportation, distillation, and precipitation.
  4. The earth free-floats in space (Job 26:7). Other sources declared the earth sat on the back of an elephant or turtle, or was held up by Atlas. The Bible alone states what we now know to be true – “He hangs the earth on nothing.”

Atmosphere – Q&A for kids  (Christiananswers) including topics like these: Water is simply amazing; What causes seasons? Weather extremes; Lightning; Why does wind make sounds?

nextmanga.com  (for purchase) The story of the universe in manga form. A comic book Bible series that keeps kids/teens (and adults!) riveted. Book 1 (Mutiny) tells the story starting from creation in Genesis 1 and up to time of the Exodus from Egypt (somewhere around Exodus 15). And I love how they have added a few extra frames of background history to give a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the true villain of history. The top angel (a created being like us) rebels against the Creator; is kicked out of Heaven; becomes God’s arch enemy; and arrives on earth to create mischief, mayhem and havoc with (as he sneers) ‘God’s favoured ones’ – humans. To rob, kill and destroy. Buy and send a few pages at a time. It’s also an excellent gift idea for a sponsor visit. My kids loved these. Monica told us that it was her favourite book.  :)
