WARRIOR AND LEADER
In this post you will find Joshua, Caleb and Rahab colouring pages, puzzles, crafts and creative ideas for kids. Joshua – man of courage and faith and a great role model for our boys – started out life as a slave in Egypt; he was chosen by God to train under Moses; and then take over leading the nation of Israel when Moses died. We first meet Joshua in Exodus 17:9 as a warrior and leader, then undercover agent (with Caleb) shortly after the Israelites left Egypt.
DID YOU KNOW: Joshua (in Hebrew) = Jesus (in Anglicized Greek)
The book of Joshua:
- is a manual for spiritual warfare
- is a prophetic anticipation of the Book of Revelation
- gives the background to Israel’s claim to the land
Joshua’s actions at Jericho strangely parallel the events in the Book of Revelation: he first sends in two witnesses, he defeats the enemy with seven trumpets, and he seems to ignore the numerous ordinances in the Torah. Dr Chuck Missler
Exodus 33:11 And the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he turned again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
…but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tent. He stayed in God’s presence. Wow! I love that verse. Joshua’s preparation for leadership was to spend time in the presence of God.
Joshua also has his own book in the Bible; here are a couple of my favourite verses from it:
Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 24:15 …choose you this day whom you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
The story of faith vs fear – and the tragic consequences Read the story of Joshua and Caleb as undercover agents in Numbers 13. God had a wonderful plan for the nation of Israel. They had been freed as slaves from Egypt and were finally at the borders of the Promised Land. The land God had promised to Abraham 400+ years before. The land was ‘flowing with milk and honey’ – lots of green grass for the cows; and lots of flowers for the bees. But there was a problem. A big one. The land was filled with giants. Real giants. Scripture tells us one of their beds were 9 cubits long and 4 cubits wide. A cubit is roughly 18 inches. Ten spies give a report of fear (they had their eyes on the problem – the giants) and manage to infect the people with fear, condemning them all to tragic consequences. And they had good reason. Those guys were BIG. [Click this link to see some photos – and here – to give you an idea] Only Caleb and Joshua had courage and faith (they had their eyes on God).
THINK SPOT: What giants are you dealing with right now? Where are our eyes when the giants enter our lives? Do we look at the giants and freak out; or are our eyes firmly on our God – and how big HE is? I love this pic from Darrell Creswell… no matter how big the giants are that you are wrestling with, God is bigger than your problem… just had to share it with you! :)

JOSHUA ~ INFORMATION
Joshua – the conquering hero “…Earning his spurs as an undercover agent, he, along with his confederate, Caleb, were the only two out of the twelve spies that brought Moses a good report. So, forty years later, he was selected to take command of the nation during the conquest of the land of the covenant-dispossessing the usurpers…”
Joshua and the day the sun stood still “…As we examine the Book of Joshua carefully, we notice that it seems to be a precursor to the book of Revelation: another Yehoshua, as Commander-in-Chief, will dispossess the Planet Earth of its usurpers first sending in two witnesses, then with a series of judgments of sevens finally defeats the kings with signs in the sun, moon, etc. The kings hide in caves, etc…”
Why did God tell Joshua to completely exterminate ALL men, women, children AND animals from 8 specific tribes? If this question has ever bothered you – and it should – this article is for you. Further reading here; here; and here.

She becomes the mother of Boaz – the hero in the Book of Ruth, who links Bethlehem with the House of David – and subsequently emerges in the genealogy of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Son of God.

Rahab let the spies down by a red cord or rope and tells the spies to go and hide in the mountains for 3 days. Why 3 days? Why not 2 days or 4 days? Dr Chuck Missler discusses this in this video (2 minutes) – and how the Holy Spirit was behind it, orchestrating every detail of Scripture – and also the use of the Hebrew word ‘cord’. The word for ‘cord’ that Rahab used can also mean ‘pain, suffering, trauma’. However when the spies talk about the same red cord and how they plan to come back and save Rahab and her family, they use a different word for ‘cord’ that can also mean ‘hope’. Between them, is 3 days. Just as there were 3 days between Jesus’ death and resurrection. There are evidences of design within the text of Scripture and the Lord Jesus is written into every page.
