GUEST POST: Sample Letter – Stretch your Wings [plus free poster]

PGFE 1John3 Poster A4 - sample

Do you struggle with writing letters to your sponsored child? I know I do, although sometimes the hardest part is just to get started, don’t you find? Kathy Olson has been blessed with an amazing gift of words from Papa God. Today she shares her gift with us… enjoy!  :)

This sample letter is a birthday letter that Kathy wrote to her sponsored child, Naigaga, but it is a perfect Spring letter, or could be used any time of the year. Kathy included this photo of a monarch butterfly hatching at the top of her letter; then photocopied all the photos she had of her ‘big girl’; cut out her face in heart shapes; then glued them in sequence (so you could see the change in her over the years); then put them next to the butterfly metamorphosis photo. What a fabulous idea! Kathy also included some of her own family photos at the bottom of the letter. If you like this sample letter, make sure you leave a comment for Kathy, as I am hoping to encourage her to share more of her wonderful gift with us…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NAIGAGA

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:1-2

Dear Naigaga

Happy Birthday to you, Naigaga!  It has been my great pleasure to see you change from a hurting child into a beautiful and loving young woman. I see the love of God in your eyes and in your beautiful smile. You continue to grow and to change, to learn new things and to discover the abilities and talents that the Lord has given you. Just as the newly hatched butterfly must stretch its wings to open them, so also you must stretch your ability. Even if your ability is small, use what you have. Do not be afraid to try new things. Do not be afraid to fail. Some of the most successful people in history failed many times before they succeeded.

These beautiful butterflies live and breed here in the warm months. Occasionally, a butterfly will not stretch its wings as it hatches and its wings dry wrinkled and shriveled. How sad because that butterfly will never fly.

My encouragement to you, beautiful daughter, is to stretch your wings like the butterfly. Do you remember Jesus’ parable of the 10 talents? The one who had more, was given more. When you use the gifts and abilities that God gives you, He will give you more. If your talent is singing, then sing for Him with all your heart whenever you have the opportunity. Are you good with children? Then teach Sunday school. Do you understand the pain of being an orphan? Then show other young orphans the love and kindness that you have received from others. Do this, and you will discover other talents and abilities that you did not know you had. The Lord will open more doors for you that once were shut. How can you use your abilities with hair cutting to bless others? Stretch you wings and fly, Naigaga. When you fail, learn from the mistake, pick yourself up and dust yourself off and move forward again.  Who knows how God will use you to change your community and country for the better. I love you and I am proud of you. Give our love and respectful greeting to your aunt and your family. Here are some finger puppets that you can cut out and tape or glue for Jonathan to play with.

My family and I are fine. We had a big storm with much rain and strong wind. Our home was not damaged, but B. has had work since the storm repairing damaged homes and businesses and cutting up fallen trees. The storm has partially filled the dry lake near our house and we are thankful to God for the water. Also, J. and S. have had another baby born to them, a girl baby named O. Please pray for more rain so the lake and wells have water.

We are happy to get your letter from December and to know you are fine. You and your family are in our hearts and prayers every day. We have sent you a birthday gift. Is there anything that you could purchase with the money that would help your hair cutting business? Use it as you think best. Goodbye for now with much love and many prayers.

Kathy Olson and family

DID YOU KNOW:  1 John 3:1-2 is a quantum physics Bible verse. ‘When He appears we shall be like Him‘ (i.e. we shall enjoy all the extra physical dimensions that He has – like being able to walk through doors in our 4D universe) ‘for we shall see Him as He is.’ We would have to share all His dimensions to be able to do that. Einstein discovered that time makes our universe 4D. Since then, scientists have discovered that there must be at least 10 dimensions. Today’s piece of Papa God’s wonder…

HERE IS A SHORT VERSION OF KATHY’S LETTER

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. Dear _____________

It has been my great joy to see you change from a child into a beautiful and loving person. I see the love of God in your eyes and in your beautiful smile. Just as the newly hatched butterfly must stretch its wings to open them, so also you must stretch your ability. Even if your ability is small, use what you have. Do not be afraid to try new things. Do not be afraid to fail. Some of the most successful people in history failed many times before they succeeded. When you fail, learn from it and try again.

Occasionally, a butterfly will not stretch its wings as it hatches and its wings dry shriveled. How sad because that butterfly will never fly.My encouragement to you is to stretch yourself like the butterfly. Do you remember Jesus’ parable of the 10 talents? The one who had more, was given more. When you use the abilities that God gives you, He will give you more. If your talent is singing, then sing for Him with all your heart. Are you good with children?  Then teach Sunday school. Do this, and you will discover other talents and abilities that you did not know you had. God will use you. I love you and I am proud of you. With love and prayers.
