Millions of lives are touched by gifts of love packed into a shoebox

OCC National Collection Weekinspirational

A shoebox through Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child can teach a child living in poverty about the love of God; lead them to Jesus; inspire pastors and help plant churches. Are you involved?

After receiving their shoebox filled with fun, children are invited to learn about Jesus in a 12 lesson program called The Greatest Journey (scroll down to the black strip and click on ‘view lessons’ – it looks like fun). When students ‘graduate’ they receive a certificate. Speaking to my local Samaritan’s Purse regional coordinator recently, she showed me a sheet with their global statistics. From 2009 to 2013, nearly two million children worldwide heard about Jesus and over one million children chose to follow Jesus as a direct result of this program, after receiving a shoebox filled with gifts. She also told me, with a smile, that children go home after the first lesson and tell their family and quite often the whole family will front up at the next lesson. They want to come to hear about Jesus too.  :)

If you are looking for further inspiration to support the work of Samaritan’s Purse, check out this video a friend sent me (thanks Kathy) about Dr Allan Sawyer, an obstetrician / gynaecologist from the USA who moved out of his comfort zone in order to bring medicine, education and life into a remote jungle village in Papua New Guinea.
