GUEST POST: Online letters

Compassion Global Ministry Centre in Colorado USA

Today we are once more having a sneak peek behind the scenes into Compassion International’s Global Ministry Centre in Colorado Springs, USA and this time we are having a closer look at how technology can help us in our letter writing to our sponsored children. Once again, a very big thank you to our volunteer tour guide for this wonderful tour. Please bring your camera and leave a comment expressing your appreciation for our tour guide when the tour is finished, but for now… enjoy!

GUEST POST BY A COMPASSION VOLUNTEER: ONLINE LETTERS

Hopefully you have had a chance to write your sponsored child recently. Your own wellspring of experiences; the Compassion website; this site – Paper Gifts for Estefany; and a host of other sites waiting to be tapped offer an abundance of ideas. If you haven’t already, the following link will connect you to a post about just how important letters really are to your child. In fact, just recently, Compassion posted a blog about how to write your child from a mobile device.

Technology has made writing not only convenient, but quick. Not only in the writing process itself, but also in processing. If you have an account with Compassion USA, you are able to use the online tool. Your letters are immediately received and in the queue, ready to be printed on site, sorted and prepped for mailing within a couple of days. The United States Postal Service (USPS) process is bypassed, so there are no delays in delivery time, nor wait time within Compassion’s Distribution Center (DCR) depending on holiday or other mailing priorities.

The online letter is perfect for the sponsor who wants to include photos on lovely fun stationery, or if you are limited on time or words. There is also less chance of a translation error from a typed page than a handwritten letter. The online letters also come in handy when you get a brainstorm for a quick additional letter.

Just in case you are wondering about the bundles on the far table, child letters come to the DCR from partner country offices, as well. Sabine brings in the international mail from the GMC’s building D. Among this batch are bundles of child correspondence from Compassion Australia and Compassion Germany.

Please come back for one more visit; there are a few more people I would love for you to meet.

  8. This is my favorite series :) I just emailed my kids last night from my mobile device–I love how easy it is, especially when I mainly want to send them some pictures of a recent activity!
