How about a space theme for your child? One innovative sponsor addressed a letter to her child as: Dear Astronaut….. (then inserted her child’s name) and wrote a fun letter giving them a ‘special mission’ to accomplish, with puzzles, colouring pages, crafts, etc specially tailored for them. You’ll find plenty of cool ideas in this post; and thanks, Danielle, for that fabulous inspiration, which I used for my own children and also in my Bible Treasure theme. And while we’re at it, how about some photo fun and turn your child into an astronaut? Let them blast off into outer space and stand on the moon!

Before we get into this too far, let’s stop for 2 minutes, and reflect on our astonishing universe with the assistance of Dr Chuck Missler. There are probably more than a hundred billion galaxies (not stars… galaxies) in our universe, each one containing 10 million to 1 trillion stars, all orbiting a common centre of gravity. Most galaxies are many thousand light years in diameter. :ooooo [that’s a jaw drop!]
SPACE / UNIVERSE ~ INFORMATION FOR KIDS ~ FREE PRINTABLE
So how big is our universe anyway? This free printable article by Paper Gifts for Estefany is designed to give glory to God as Creator and is available in English and French. Suggestions of what photos I used for my kids + links + how-to tutorial provided.
Earth was created for LIFE (icr.org) Location! Location! Location! Our solar system is filled with amazing planets, but none are perfect for life except the earth; the more we find out about them, the more we discover that the earth is unique and specially created for life; print off this free article about the other planets or share a snippet of these amazing facts with your child, from scientists who take the Bible seriously.
101 Scientific Facts (eternal-productions) written in the Bible centuries before they were discovered; from scientists who take the Bible seriously. Print off the whole article or include a snippet in your letter each time you write. Here are just a few of them:
- The earth free-floats in space (Job 26:7), affected only by gravity. Other sources declared the earth sat on the back of an elephant or turtle, or was held up by Atlas. The Bible alone states what we now know to be true – “He hangs the earth on nothing.”
- The earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22). At a time when many thought the earth was flat, the Bible told us that the earth is spherical.
- Incalculable number of stars (Jeremiah 33:22). At a time when less than 5,000 stars were visible to the human eye, God stated that the stars of heaven were innumerable. Not until the 17th century did Galileo glimpse the immensity of our universe with his new telescope. Today, astronomers estimate that there are ten thousand billion trillion stars – that’s a 1 followed by 25 zeros. Yet, as the Bible states, scientists admit this number may be woefully inadequate.
- The number of stars, though vast, are finite (Isaiah 40:26). Although man is unable to calculate the exact number of stars, we now know their number is finite. Of course God knew this all along – “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name” (Psalm 147:4). What an awesome God.
- The Bible compares the number of stars with the number of grains of sand on the seashore (Genesis 22:17; Hebrews 11:12). Amazingly, estimates of the number of sand grains are comparable to the estimated number of stars in the universe.
- The sun goes in a circuit (Psalm 19:6). Some scientists scoffed at this verse and insisted the sun was stationary. However, we now know that the sun is travelling through space at approximately 600,000 miles per hour. It is literally moving through space in a huge circuit – just as the Bible stated 3,000 years ago.
Sun and Earth – Location! Location! Location! (icr.org) Our sun is perfectly located within our spiral-shaped galaxy, the Milky Way… and our planet is perfectly located within our solar system. Find out why we have the best seats in the solar system to watch those twinkling stars; how Jupiter acts as our ‘big brother’; how the moon acts as our little brother and stabilizing anchor; and how we are protected because of the way our solar system was created; print off this free article or share a snippet of these amazing facts with your child in each letter; from scientists who take the Bible seriously
Earth – the only place found just right for life (answersingenesis) We’re just one out of millions of planets where life is likely to exist. Don’t believe it. Even the best planets found so far don’t come close to reaching the minimum requirements, and the list is longer than you think. In fact, there’s no place like home. Share a snippet with your child from scientists who take the Bible seriously.
Our Sun – NOT just another star (answersingenesis) Our sun is just a tiny yellow star in a vast collection that could support life. You’ll hear this more and more. Don’t believe it. Our God-given sun appears to be unique. Share a snippet with your child from scientists who take the Bible seriously.
How big is the universe – How small is an atom (htwins) Do you find it hard to visualise how big the universe is? Or how small an atom is? I know I do. How about if you could find a fun (online) tool that allows you to scroll right in under the microscope (micro) ~ and scroll right out to the edge of the universe (macro) ~ with a flick of your mouse and compare it to… say… the size of an elephant? Or a jumbo jet? Or Mount Everest? Tons of fun! Tell your sponsored child about it. Click the link, wait for the page to load, select your language, then click the big black ‘start’ button, for a “glimpse into the vastness of creation always leave me in awe of the wonders of God…”
Sir Isaac Newton is considered to be one of the greatest scientists who ever lived. His discoveries in mathematics and science are massive. Among them, he invented calculus, the laws of motion and gravitation and he also constructed the first reflecting telescope. But did you know that he also believed the Bible and wrote more than a million words of Bible commentary. He wrote more about the Bible than he did on science! :o
Astronomy – Q&A (creation.com) Is there scientific evidence that our solar system is NOT billions of years old? Yes! And this evidence is posing a mystery for scientists who believe in billions of years. Share a snippet with your child from scientists who take the Bible seriously.
Astronomy – Q&A (answersingenesis) It is not commonly known that many of the Bible’s statements about astronomy went against the generally accepted teachings of the time. Modern science, however, has confirmed that the Bible is absolutely correct. Share a snippet with your child from scientists who take the Bible seriously.
Saturn’s gravity keeps vacuuming up its own stunning rings (icr.org) The rings lose six Olympic-sized swimming pools-worth of material every hour according to new results from NASA. These rings also look young, forcing scientists who believe the planet formed billions of years ago to rearrange their stories; Meet Saturn’s moon – Encedadus the more that our space probes discover about this fascinating little moon that inhabits Saturn’s tenuous E ring, the more challenging it becomes for conventional origins to explain; Solar System Geysers – fountains of youth A sticky problem for nature-only origins just got 100 times worse. Detailed inspection of Enceladus now shows not just one, but 101 geysers shooting ice particles into space… If these geysers formed billions of years ago as secular origins models insist, then small Solar System bodies should be old, cold, and dead—that is, geologically, magnetically, and otherwise completely inactive. However, recent creation solves all these mysteries; from scientists who take the Bible seriously; share a snippet with your child
Dr John Hartnett physicist, cosmologist and university professor of physics is one serious scientist who fully believes the Word of God; information and brochures for our serious science students; free printable
The moon – the light that rules the night (creation.com) the moon does what it’s designed to do and is vital for life on Earth; fascinating facts about our moon from scientists who take the Bible seriously.
ASTRONAUTS WHO LOVE JESUS: Tell your child about these real life astronauts who love God and believe the Bible: Colonel James Irwin who walked on the moon; Colonel Jeffrey Williams from the International Space Station; here is more about Colonel Williams; more astronauts who love Jesus; and find out about the Bible that was taken to the moon.
THE CROSS IN SPACE: American evangelist Arthur Blessitt carried a huge cross for 50+ years through 324 countries, walking 42,700+ miles (he holds the Guinness Book record for the longest walk ever). In 2019 and at age 78, he is still walking and carrying the cross around the world. Share interesting stories, facts, and photos about Arthur carrying the cross through your home country or your child’s country and other special places–e.g. Antarctica, the Great Wall of China, Siberia… and let them know a piece of that cross even orbited the earth in space. “The Cross in Space” re-entry occurred on the satellite’s 576th orbit of the Earth on 26 June 2012. Like a flaming shooting star for the glory of God. How cool is that?!
DID YOU KNOW: There are a couple of NASA spaceships that have been travelling out from Earth for 40+ YEARS since their launch in 1977 and still haven’t even touched the edge of what’s out there! Wow! Our God is the guy who made all that. Our hassles and problems are insignificant to Him. He could make them disappear in a heartbeat – after they have accomplished a little more polishing in our lives. This life is just a test: are we going to just be a ‘fan’ and get distracted by all the world has to offer; or a true ‘follower’ – loving Jesus with ALL our hearts the way He loves us?

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS? Visually stunning and presented by PhD scientists full of awe as they explore our Creator’s handiwork and what it reveals about His character, power, wisdom, majesty and care. The whole documentary is fabulous, but in this short segment, they discuss our visible universe. It contains more than 100 billion galaxies, each one with a diameter millions of trillions of miles wide and each contains hundreds of billions of stars. It is now estimated that the universe holds a billion trillion stars. In our own Milky Way Galaxy alone, scientists estimate there are 100 billion stars. We cannot even begin to grasp the kind of power and energy that represents, all created by God’s Word. Take a few minutes out and treat yourself.

While preparing this post, I found many space / universe items also included ‘little green men’. Although many of them had great ideas otherwise, they have been excluded. Here’s why… and you may even like to discuss this with your older children – as they will come across it…
UFO are NOT extraterrestrial (Gary Bates – creation.com) As a young man (non-believer), I loved watching science fiction and its portrayal of older, more advanced extraterrestrials (ETs) inhabiting other worlds and warping around the galaxy in their hyperdrive spaceships. However, when I became a Christian and biblical creationist, the strong evolutionary link to the belief in ETs became obvious… I undertook specialist research into what is called the ‘UFO phenomenon’ which led to my Amazon top 50 best-selling book… I discovered deliberate and insidious attempts by dark spiritual forces to deceive mankind.
UFOs = deceptions manifested by Satan and his minions (creation.com) My friend, Joe Jordan who I mentioned in the book, has now met and counseled over 400 former abductees whose experiences have stopped in the name of Christ, or people praying, singing hymns etc. If they are really ETs from another world, what is it about Christians they don’t like?
Do UFOs exist? (Dr Chuck Missler) If so, what are they? There seems to be a growing concern within the psychiatric community from the strange (and far too frequent) reports from people who claim to have been “abducted” by the occupants of UFOs. These reports are too bizarre to accept, and yet too frequent-and consistent-to ignore… Dr. John E. Mack, who is professor of psychiatry at The Cambridge Hospital, Harvard Medical School… has been involved in almost a hundred of these cases personally, and has shocked the professional community by declaring that he believes these beings may be real and that they appear to have an agenda to develop a hybrid race! At a professional conference on abductions at M.I.T., Dr. Mack asked the provocative question, “If what these abductees are saying is happening to them isn’t happening, then what is?”
Alien Encounters (Dr Chuck Missler) Genesis 6 indicates that the “sons of God” (B’nai Elohim) took wives of the “daughters of men,” which gave birth to the “Nephilim.” What on earth was going on? It was the infusion of these strange beings into the human predicament that brought on the Flood of Noah. It seems that this was part of Satan’s stratagem to corrupt the line of Adam to prevent the fulfillment of the Messianic redemption.
Mischievous Angels? (Dr Chuck Missler) Why did God send the judgment of the Flood in the days of Noah? The strange events recorded in Genesis 6 were understood by the ancient rabbinical sources, as well as the Septuagint translators, as referring to fallen angels procreating weird hybrid offspring with human women-known as the “Nephilim.” So it was also understood by the early church fathers. These bizarre events are also echoed in the legends and myths of every ancient culture upon the earth: the ancient Greeks, the Egyptians, the Hindus, the South Sea Islanders, the American Indians, and virtually all the others.

What about aliens – information and puzzle sheet for kids (answersingenesis) Superman came from the planet Krypton. Mr. Spock is from the planet Vulcan. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from Kashyyyk. Movies, television programs and books tell us of worlds and life forms in far away galaxies. But is any of it true? Could there really be aliens in outer space? What can we learn from the Bible?
Jack Dey gives this issue a Biblical viewpoint in his fiction suspense novel, Paradise Warrior. If you like a Christian fiction cryptic mystery with lots of twists and turns, this one is fabulous. I love his books and highly recommend them to all my readers. :)
Finally, ’33 miles’ reminds us that the arms that hold the universe (short video) are holding you tonight. Be still and know that He is in control.
And when you write, don’t forget to tell your sponsored child who made all these amazing galaxies…
