Timeline of History

HISTORY = HIS STORY!

We’ve got the BIG PICTURE of history straight from The Creator! Let’s share it with our children. This is how one creative grandfather takes on the responsibility to teach each of his grandchildren the timeline of human history since Creation—God’s way. I like the way he gets each child to add their own details to the timeline, too. This is sweet little Maddi with her Grandpa after her day of fun.

TEACHING A BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW ~ a fun project for parents and grandparents

Grandpa explains, “As my grandchildren reach upper primary-school I book a special day with them to carry out a specific project: we make a TIMELINE of human history since Creation—God’s way.”

  • He makes an official appointment with each child personally.
  • He takes them out of their comfort zone, finds somewhere they’ve never been before, so it’s not ho-hum and he has their full attention.
  • He starts with a cooked breakfast and shares with them, “that they’ll hear lots of opposing things at school and in life, but I want them to know what their Grandad believes because they’re going to have to decide what they are going to believe too, and then stand up for it.”
  • The only thing they need to bring with them is their Bible.

This is a great idea for our kids… homeschool and Sunday School kids, too. To give them THE BIG PICTURE OF HISTORY firmly grounded in Creation, to show them that we can trust God’s Word implicitly. The ONLY One who was there when the universe was created and all the way through history is our Creator. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. So it makes sense to read His account of history, and to trust His account over the opinions of men. Whilst we can’t start with a special date and a cooked breakfast for our sponsored children like Grandpa does, we can talk to them about these great resources (and send them instructions) so they can make their own timeline of world history from God’s perspective, and then add their own details into it. Find out more.

Timeline – FREE Bible game   (livingwaterBiblegames) This free printable card game was designed to go with the above timeline project. It consists of 24 Bible event cards and 9 action cards. As children (ages 7+) play with their friends (2 – 6 players) they place the cards in order to learn the overall flow of the Biblical story. There are 2 different levels of difficulty, and it includes blank cards so you can add extra Bible (and personal) events; free printable

Old Testament Timeline for kids  (wewilsons) using fun little cartoons to give kids an idea of how different events relate to each another… “It doesn’t include every prophet and king and favorite story (because otherwise it would be 10′ long!) but it provides a big picture, so when you’re reading your favorite story you can point and say, this happened here; in colour or to colour; free printable

Family Tree from Adam to Jesus – FREE poster  (amazingBibletimeline) in the shape of a cross – showing the two royal lineages of Jesus: one through his legal father, Joseph (showing the official royal line through David’s son, Solomon, as detailed in Matthew) and one through Mary (her bloodline came through one of David’s other sons, Nathan, as detailed in Luke). I sent this one to my children as it’s really easy to see at a glance who belongs where; free printable

Why Two Family Lines of Jesus  (Chuck Missler) Ever found the two family trees of Jesus confusing and wondered why Joseph is in both of them? Here’s why. The law of Moses permitted inheritance through the daughter if no sons were available and she married within her tribe. Refer Numbers 27. Mary’s father apparently had no sons. Mary married within her tribe. A virgin birth through Mary gave Jesus legal title to the throne of David, bypassing the blood curse put on Solomon’s line after Jeconiah (see Jeremiah 22:30) after God got fed up with the lot of them. God is SOOO clever! I did an article about this in both English and French for my kids. You are welcome to download it for free.

The World: Born in 4004 BC?  (answersingenesis) James Ussher (1581-1656) had logical and historically valid reasons for his calculated date of creation; and this date was widely accepted until people began to believe in ideas such as billions of years of Earth history. In other words, they started trusting in the latest secular findings based on fallible dating methods, instead of the only absolutely reliable method—consulting the history book provided by the Eyewitness account (the infallible Word of God).
