AHOY ME HEARTIES! ARRR! YAR HA ARRR!

One of my favourite themes that I have done for my sponsored children was a Bible Treasure theme full of pirates, treasure chests and swashbuckling adventure to encourage them to dig into eternal treasure and the promises of God. It was a lot of fun. This theme has been deliberately designed so that it could be adapted for any of our children no matter how old they are… just personalise it for your child… and enjoy!

2 Corinthians 4:6-7 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

In part 1 of this series, I described how, as part of this Bible treasure theme, I started to send my children a colourful 35 page list of a ton of Bible verses, one sheet at a time. My kids loved them. Kefa later told us that it helped him be a good boy! :o

BIBLE TREASURE THEME ~ INFORMATION FOR KIDS

God chose who He wanted to spend eternity with – and He chose us! We are His Treasure! (Chuck Smith) I am glad that God gave me the opportunity to choose the one that I was going to spend the rest of my life with… What a blessing, what a glorious blessing that God should choose me to spend eternity with Him… Now God didn’t choose me after I decided to clean up my act and live for Him… God chose me before the foundations of the world… If you only knew how much God treasured you… Do you remember Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is liken unto a man going through a field and discovering a treasure.” (Matthew 13:44). Now when you attribute that parable, the treasure turns out to be you. And the person who gave everything to buy the field, the world, in order to obtain the treasure is Jesus. He values you so highly that He gave His life to redeem you, to purchase you. You are His treasure… If you only knew how much God treasured you, you would never treat yourself cheaply again. Share this wonderful information with your child.

You are a Precious Pearl (Godisreal) …priceless to God. But the beautiful pearl is covered with sin. God wants to clear off the dirt that surrounds us and bring out the beauty of who we are, as a part of His beloved creation. This cleansing starts when we completely give our lives to Jesus Christ, who suffered for all our sins and imperfections when He died on the cross. He wants to free the beauty captured by your sins, and make it visible to the world that surrounds you. He wants to show you to other people as a sparkling pearl filled with Him. Share this beautiful insight with your child. Make sure that your child knows that God is our treasure and they are God’s precious treasure.

Bible Treasure Hunt

Bible Treasure Hunt (creativeBiblestudy) Use Bible verses to create a fun and exciting treasure hunt. Everyone loves to find treasure. You will find ideas of how to take the fun of a treasure hunt and teach a wonderful Bible lesson as well.

Bible Scavenger Hunt (Christiancrafters) …perfect for a picnic. For the younger children, there’s a list of clues in rhyming verse that are drawn from the Bible. For older children, clues with Bible references they can look up. You may like to provide little trinkets for each of the clues, except for items that can be found around the park, such as branches. A fun activity for your own family and send photos and the clues to your sponsored child so they can do it, too.

Bible Treasure Map

A note about my own Treasure Map: I used the advanced map (from the below link) for all of my children and added it to my Bible Treasure Map background (shown here), coloured in the ship’s flag solid black, removed the mermaid, added some other clip art around the edge of the map and text boxes with extra words near the hazards to make it specifically a ‘Bible Treasure’ theme. This was done before printing, but it could just as easily be handwritten in. As my treasure map template has a warning posted at the top: Hear ye hear ye! Be not diverted from finding true and eternal treasure and the promises of God, my additional text boxes included reasons and hazards any eternal treasure hunter may encounter, like: too busy; can’t be bothered; not interested; pursuing other things; too tired; I’ve already read the Bible once; people around me are not interested in God; others discourage me from spending time with God; others tell me the Bible is not God’s Word; the enemy steals God’s Word away from me (this was placed near the ship, with a ho ho ho me hearty next to it, making the enemy of our souls, the real pirate); and the timeless classic from Genesis 3 that still manages to trip us all up: Did God really say?

Bible Treasure Chest

DIY Treasure Chest – craft (answersingenesis; two download links, one at the top of the page, the other at the bottom) make a treasure chest out of wood, but this activity could also be done with a paper treasure chest; and there are little notes to put in it about the character of God or God’s attributes. ‘If I said to you, “God is,” what word would you use to finish that, e.g.God is love, God is kind, God is good, God is perfect, God is patient, God is truth. There is a never-ending list of words to describe our amazing God. It’s so important to think a lot about God and his goodness because it makes us want to thank him and praise him. It also helps us through tough times. All people have tough times because we live in a broken world. But remembering who God is and that he is trustworthy makes all the difference.
